A collection done almost entirely in tones of gray, to suggest old black and white movies according to Miuccia, was one of Prada’s most focused collections in some time. The attention was kept on a modern silhouette and the use of mesh and punctured materials, seen in knits, wovens, and shoes. Not a totally new idea but certainly her take on mesh is one of the best yet executed, it’s a material that can all too easily go the way of International Male Catalog. The collection is quiet but there are plenty of good clothes to wear.

Those who’ve followed Homo Neurotic for a while will perhaps recall a photographer pair, Luigi and Luca, that I interviewed in August of last year for our In the Spotlight series.  Their art, while highly sexual, rises above the banal sexuality that a lot of photographers fall back on for their imagery.  Instead, they capture the unique relationship that exists between them — two artists with a singular vision to push boundaries in exploring art.  They have now posted an amazing video, shot in San Francisco while the two were traveling through the US during 2008.  Click the link and check it out!

Occasionally I’m reminded of artists’ work that can’t be called current, but which is timeless or, at minimum, possesses some quality that resonates with the immediate moment.  British photographer and filmmaker Toyin blends artistic elements that place her work both in the past and the present, always with a distinctly sexualized perspective.  Her imagery suggests a personal and intimate connection with her subjects.  The recent Bill Henson exhibition, with beautiful, melancholic youth and defocussed light reminded me of Toyin’s collaboration with designer Kim Jones for the A/W ‘03 collection.  The video is below.  Her Cult of Boys series, easily found on YouTube, also provides brief but visually intense bites of her work and her collaboration with Replay gave rise to another great video (which gave rise to the stills in this post).

She also collaborated with musician Patrick Wolf in producing a music video in the same vein as her Cult of Boys series and Kim Jones collaboration.  Check it out.
