MEMOIR | Hopefully you know who Aiden Shaw is by the “Sex and the City” reference alone. However, in case you are too young or too prude to know, Mr. Shaw was one of the highest, if not the highest paid gay porn star in history.

British born, he made his way through the California porn industry with his rugged good looks and one of the largest dicks in the industry. Today, retired and HIV positive, Shaw has turned his attention to other pursuits. To date he has written 3 novels, 2 biographies, (one of which became a best-seller), 2 books of poetry, produced and written 2 albums, and managed to get a masters in Creative and Life Writing.

BEARS, OTTERS, AND WOOKIEES, OH MY! | Blackout was packed at last night’s Pinups release party, and we met some delightful bearded gents who were there to celebrate the 10th edition of Christopher Schulz’s brainchild. Check out the hairy glory below.

PINUPS 10 Launches on Friday @ Blackout (BK), and instead of a traditional flyer Christopher Schulz has created a “newspaper”-style bulletin that outlines the morning routines (and other writings) by some familiar bold-faced-names including Ken Baldwin, Elliott Breeden, AA Bronson, Shannon Michael Cane, Costello Tagliapietra, Evan J Garza, Nathan Hazard, Mark Jeffery, Ryan McNamara, Joshua David Riegel, RIOTBEAR, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, David Tabbert, and Dave White. The flyer is hard to read, at this size, but perhaps Christopher will have printouts @ the event on Friday.

(NSFW) CENTERFOLD BOYS – Take a sneak peak at the latest issue of PINUPS magazine with cover boy Joey. Be warned, unless your boss is a ragging fag with bear tendencies (and even then) these sexy photos are best viewed at home. Or in the privacy of your own office (lucky you!). Read our interview with creator Christopher Schulz here. Are you ready? Set! Click!!

The bearded boys were out on Sunday night to celebrate the launch of PINUPS Issue 5 at Rapture Cafe. Christiania sponsored a two-hour free open bar, and PINUPS creator Christopher Schulz encouraged a pants optional atmosphere. Be warned, these images are best enjoyed from the privacy of your home ISP.

A few drinks into the night and I was ready to snap up a shot (or two).

FAG-A-ZINE | Christopher Schulz and I met at the Chelsea Art Book Fair. He was toting copies of his wordless magazine PINUPS in a vintage Louis Vuitton zip-up portfolio.

Pinups is a triannual publication that features (usually) one male nude pictorial per issue. There are no words—just an exaggeration of the classic centerfold. Each magazine exists in book form but can be taken apart and tiled to reveal a 32” x 70” image.

I’d seen him around and had heard about PINUPS from friends. He seemed aloof and uninterested in meeting me. But somehow I convinced him to do an interview. It seemed fitting to meet at Nowhere Bar, where PINUPS launched earlier this year. I wasn’t expecting to find him so affable and forthcoming, but after one margarita on the rocks and little Beyonce on the jukebox he had me hooked.

HN: Hi Chris, I’ve to tell you. I was worried about this interview for two reasons. 1. You seem like a private person. And I thought, “I’m going to ask him questions and he’s going to have one word answers.” 2. You’re a dead-ringer for ex-boyfriend.

CS: I want to see a picture! I like the discussion because I’ve done other interviews and it’s always been in emails. And I find I’m more formal because I can edit myself. I do much better in conversation.

HN: When I first saw you dancing here at Nowhere with your boyfriend, I kind of wanted to punch you in the face a little bit.

CS: Really? You where like “Who is he with?” Oh, that reminds me. I came here on Halloween night, and this guy comes in wearing this outfit—sort of like a fitted onesie piece…kind of like a burlap sack—but fitted. And he has this heart right here and these spikes through him.

And I’m like: “What are you supposed to be?”

He’s like “ Oh I’m um So and So Voodoo Doll.”

And I’m like “Who’s that?”

He’s like: “My ex-boyfriend. He’s here.”

I was so into his costume and he won the contest—which I thought he deserved because it was such a good costume.

Lately there’s a slew of new arty gay look books and zines—PINUPS, STRAIGHT TO HELL, DADDY—they tend to showcase photos and drawings of guys (tons of cock shots), short stories, hook-up confessionals, comics, celeb interviews, all capped off with a trademark sexual irony and playful explicitness.
