New decade, new references. Welcome back to the 90’s gentlemen. Fierce prints, color blocking and berets. Think Black Box backup dancers, Dee-lite, and old style vogue if you’ve got the attitude for it. If you’re into a more luxe, sophisticated vibe, go a little more forward in time and work it out in Gucci and update the classics of Tom Ford’s heyday with a strong wide lapel and a pair of moleskins or velvet trousers and embrace the minimalism of a mock turtleneck. Clean, easy lines that say smooth. And hey, if all else fails, a pair of relaxed, wide leg trousers can be a whole lot more flattering (and comfortable) than a pair of saggy but skin tight hipster jeans—you know the ones I’m talking about lads. Right now, its all about having a little fun and not being afraid to being fucking fabulous and relaxed with one’s tongue firmly placed in cheek.

Are you excited on being a part of such a highly regarded show?
“We have such a great story line [on “Mad Men”] that reflects what is going on still today. It shows how far we’ve come — people being fired for being gay — but also how far we need to go,” maintains Bryan Batt, who plays a closeted “art director” on the Emmy-winning AMC series.  “Keep on watching “Mad Men” and support GLAAD. ”

*Full disclosure: We saw Bryan approaching the theatre before the show began, but were too chicken to approach him. Later he commented on how much he liked our classic black leather Gucci bamboo-buckle driving shoes — he owns a pair in white. Blush. Bryan is a gentleman on all accounts: he’s funny, stylish, personable and charming overall. He’s practically our new muse.

Why is this event so important to you?
“Advertising is even more important a form that can send both good and bad messages throughout the world,” said Broadway star, Alan Cumming. “So I think it’s very healthy and timely that GLAAD is moving into the advertising world.”

What is one item every gentleman owns?
“A jockstrap,” he suggests without a pause. “I think every man has got to have a jockstrap…. I know I do.”

What are you wearing?
“I’m wearing Gucci suit and shirt. They didn’t’ send a tie. So I’m wearing my own vintage tie.”

BLACK TIE | Rachel Zoe-ssociate, Mr. Brad Goreski, shares his Emmy’s “look” with his 14,647+ tweetpeas. What’s he wearing? Dolce & Gabbana blazer, Tom Ford button down, Burberry bowtie, YSL pants and Gucci shoes. No socks? “I only wear socks and belts when necessary,” Brad tweets back. “But I have lots of super fun socks. Maybe I will start featuring them.”

GAME PLAN – Not ones to be left out of the product placement game, the folks over at Gucci threw together this mangled Olympics collection: “8-8-2008 Limited Edition.” I can imagine Frida Ginanni’s equally mangled rationale: “What do the Chinese like? I know Pandas! MahJong! And bicycles!”  And we wonder why the Gucci brand is losing its caché? The only item under $500 is the “military inspired” sterling silver and enamel necklace at $445. (It’s choking the lil’ scary panda’s neck.)

Faggoting*: Weekly observations on fashion from someone who knows better.

ELEGANCE IS A WORD used all too often and has overextended it’s potency into something banal and boring. People cite elegant Hollywood glamor, but when was the last time any celebrity looked truly elegant? Not in any candid tabloid photo and certainly not with a bronze tan and a over designed red carpet gown dripping with Harry Winston bling. When I hear someone or something described as being elegant I cringe as I see the cited example reeking of desperation clinging on to the last drop of subversion and poetry that still exists in our popular culture. This is when you hear people talk about Audrey, or Natalie Portman, or whatever thin brunette who hasn’t made totally awful movies. I’m almost ready to declare elegance dead.
