With the way Miuccia Prada conceptualizes, or ponders conceptualizing, you can never be sure if the humor in her collection is intentional or that you’re just not in on the joke. But after two seasons of relatively dark and brooding collections it’s a telling sign to feel the tickle of the funny bone in one of fashion’s most omniscient and enigmatic labels.

Absent from men.style.com and almost completely unknown to even the most astute fashion followers, Giuliano Fujiwara is slowly creeping back into the awareness of the industry and consumers. They’re doing it with stellar collections designed by Masataka Matsumura who has done much over the past few seasons to return the house to it’s former heights in the early 80’s and 90’s.
Here at homo-neurotic we’re pleased that there are no noticeable causalities of the recession off the list this season. Milan Men’s Fashion Week Fall 2009: Giuliano Fujiwara by Masataka Matsumura: Big in the 80’s and early 90’s the label had been out of the public eye until 2006 when Masataka Matsumura took over as creative director. Since then it has been steadily gaining speed and for Fall 2009 the collection certainly holds its own against any of the industry’s heavy hitters. The brand’s mission could be described as an attempt to bring Japanese and Italian fashion into closer synergy, what exactly that means in 2009 when neither Japanese or Italian fashion are considered emerging or exotic is not quite certain.
