Al Parker (born Andrew “Drew” Okun) was a pioneering gay porn actor, producer and director of the 70-80’s in San Francisco’s “pre-condom age.” Although it’s important to note that Parker’s Surge Studios would later lead the industry in mandating safe sex practices when AIDS appeared.
“Inches” — read more about it in the BUTT curated selections for the ACE hotel below — was directed by Steve Scott in 1979. The two best aspects of the film include (at least for me) the beards and the fashions. Check out the amazing man-bag/gym tote at min 2:46. Or the hilarious hanky code references at the end (red = fisting). And the amazing short shorts. Why don’t gay men aspire to look more like this? These guys are gorgeous, yet undeniably masculine. No ass-waxing, eye-brow preening, or chest shaving required.
For more about Parker read Roger Edmonson’s sexy bio “Clone: The Life and Legacy of Al Parker Gay Superstar” published by Alyson in 2000.
If vintage porn isn’t your thing, the music alone — “Free Pop Electronic Theme No. 1″ by The Free Pop Electronic Concept (1969) — makes the 10 minute video clip worth watching. Video courtesy of Kinky Wagon.
