Why is this GLAAD event so important to you?
“First of all I’m a huge supporter of GLAAD,” declared ANTM’s silver fox, Jay Manuel. “But most importantly these awards really do make a difference in the world of advertising — which is where I spent most of my career — including everyone in the GLBT community. It’s so important — especially for all of us. We can stand up and take notice — and that’s important. “

What is one item every gentleman owns?
“Well, the one thing I would hope that every gentleman owns is probably the staple black suit — well tailored!” stipulates Manuel. “Suits aren’t supposed to have room — you’re not supposed to go swimming or sleeping. They’re supposed to be very tailored. My grandfather was a tailor. So I grew up with this mentality — tailored to fit your body.”

What are you wearing?
“I’m wearing Tom Ford. This is a very business chic environment, so I just wore grey and a little pocket square — it’s a little dandy. It’s not quite the night for me to pull out one of my Liberace outfits.”

A QUICKIE | The premier GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising took place Tuesday, October 27th at New World Stages in New York City. Actor Alan Cumming (he’s done everything from “Josie and the Pussycats” to “Cabaret” on Broadway), who received the Vito Russo Award at the 16th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2005, hosted the event along with the brilliantly funny Bryan Batt (Mad Men) and the dapper Jay Manuel (America’s Next Top Model).

But more on those three later. We spoke with all three gents — and we’ll have exclusive quotes and video later tonight — for now here’s a list of the winners and the official press release below the fold. Did we mention that “Ugly Betty’s Judith Light was also there? She was looking fabulous BTW.

If you weren’t already aware, RuPaul’s Drag Race premiered this Monday on Logo. Drag Race combines what we love about Project Runway, inane challenges that result in bizarre outfits, and what we love about America’s Next Top Model, bitchy contestants all brought down a peg by a ferocious drag queen. Each week the contestants follow a very ANTM series of events: photo shoot, special challenge, and “main-stage” show. The difference being that they have to do their own make-up, make their own outfits, and the bottom two each week, instead of quivering in the face of Tyra’s icy glare, are ordered to ‘lip sync for their life,’ naturally.

Though these added touches of glam really bedazzle the stonewashed denim jacket that is Drag Race, the other ways in which is differs from its predecessors further illustrates just how sharp the divide is from Bravo and the CW to Logo.

WE DON’T NORMALLY DO THIS BUT… Skimming through today’s Daily News, as we devoured our meager salad, we bumped into ANTM winner Saleisha Stowers (Cycle 9). In a newspaper ad. Wearing Rampage. For Macy’s. WTF!?!  It makes sense. 1.) Macy’s is in bed with the CW. 2.) Saleisha has modeled for Macy’s in the past.  Still. How is it that the ”winner” of America’s Next Top Model is busy posing for catalogs, while plus-size Toccara Jones (Cycle 3) — who didn’t win – has a spread in Vogue Italia? Conundrum or poetic justice?  Work it out Toccara.
