Remember Jon Kortajarena—AKA Tom Ford’s model muse? The Spaniard was even in Ford’s film “A Single Man.” Well here are images from the SS2010 look book for Tom Ford via The Fashionisto. In the coming months, expect to see much more money spent on lookbooks that are disseminated via blogs and less money spent on paid advertising. Why buy the cow, when when you can milk the Kortajarena for free?

We can all agree that among the most dashing of the mens’ nominees was “A Single Man” lead, Colin Firth, wearing a bespoke Tom Ford suit and vintage inspired cuff-links and studs. The cuff-links and studs are copies of 1920’s vintage models and were a gift from designer/director Tom Ford. According to WENN, the actor even went on to say, “I own a very nice house and I make a nice living, but I am not in a position to own these.” It is those small, delicious details that make a man stand apart amidst a sea of penguin suits and shiny shoes. Gentlemen take note: subtlety is king. We were so excited, we actually tweeted (or as our friends like to say, “twoted”) about it. Ryan Richardson may be our new hero. His website, Gay on the Range, is a stunning, hilarious archive of gay paperback book covers from the 50’s and 60’s. (The range, we assume, is a reference to Richardson’s Austin, TX home.) Matthew Goode and Colin Firth in Tom Ford's A Single Man
Here’s another clip from Tom Ford’s anticipated film, “A Single Man” featuring Golden Globe nominee Colin Firth and Matthew Goode. We’ve showcased several clips over the past month. And if you’ve paid close attention as we have, then you’ll notice the clips are getting gayer and gayer. Ford has defended his film against Gay Ghettoization, saying his film is “not a gay film.” Still, if “A Single Man” is not a gay film, then it’s certainly the gayest-seeming film we’ve seen all year (and we saw a ton of films this year). So, if it looks like a duck and it walks like a duck… then what?

Yes. We think so. And Boy Culture agrees. Born in Bilbao, Spain, 24-year old, Jon Kortajarena, has starred in every single Tom Ford advertising campaign, since he graced the cover of L’Officiel Hommes in 2008. We have to admit that Kortajarena is sort of a chameleon, because he looks completely different in almost every shoot. Were it not for those defining cheek bones, we would have assumed he was a new face. BTW, Kortajarena (say that five times fast) is ranked as one of the top 10 male models by both Models.com and Forbes.com. In this clip from “A Single Man,” Kortajarena plays Carlos, a free spirit with a beautiful accent and a willing disposition.

It makes sense that Ford would court the art-house crowd with a Charlie Rose interview. This is Ford’s either second or third visit on the Charlie Rose show. We found this clip (see below) of Ford from 2004. Full disclosure, we totally tuned in back then, and we’re graciously tuning in again now. Except this time, we’re doing so virtually. And if you can allow yourself to get over Ford’s sometimes condescending inflection then, you’ll find he’s a much more intelligent man you may have imagined a style-obsessed, openly gay, artsy, connected type such as Ford would be. “Why does the world want to see a Tom Ford film?,” asks the designer/director. We’ll let you, dear reader, answer that for yourself.
While the rest of us were were watching NCIS on CBS on Tuesday night, the A-Listers came out for the New York premiere of ”NINE” @ the Ziegfeld Theater. Two very special guests were Madonna (wearing vintage Dolce & Gabbana) and daughter Lourdes–who is perhaps the fiercest teen in America right now. “I think it’s great that [Lourdes] dresses like a normal, adjusted, and confident teenage girl who is in tune with popular culture, has a social life, and has not in the least bit let her mother’s celebrity get in the way of of it,” noted our resident fashion critic, Jeremy Lewis. As someone who prides himself on having a love of both fashion and film, no story has intrigued me more than that of Tom Ford’s desire to make a feature film. Many know Ford as one of the greatest living American fashion designers, yet he made it no secret after his retirement from designing that he had his sights set on film directing. Could he translate his meticulous eye and his artistic genius from the fashion world to the silver screen? Or would his penchant for overt sex, evidenced by his racy ad campaigns for Gucci in the late 90s and early 00s, render any film work he’d aspire to make much too campy right out of the gate? For years, the question lingered. Luckily for us, we finally have an answer.

This week The Cinema Society of New York and Bing hosted a screening of “A Single Man” at the Museum of Modern Art with an after-party held at Monkey Bar. The guest list included VIP’s like dapper Director Tom Ford, and “A Single Man” stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, and, of course, Madonna.

Now that fall is almost done and winter is headed our way, your local movie house—assuming you don’t live in a red state or on Staten Island—will be heading into what is normally considered the prestige film season that lasts from September right up to December 31st, when films become ineligible for next year’s Academy Awards nominations. Sure, sometimes the odd Hollywood blockbuster/disaster/action movie will sneak in under the radar (read: “2012″), but for the most part you can assume that most of the movies with a post-September release date will be gunning for a golden statuette. And now, with several publications and other film organizations beginning to release their top flicks of the year—you can see the picks the International Press Academy chose here—we figured it might be best to offer up a look at what you don’t want to miss. In case you haven’t seen this already, here’s the new poster for Tom Ford’s new film, “A Single Man,” which opens in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco on December 11th — and expands to wider release on December 25th. Based on the Christopher Isherwood novel, “A Single Man,” stars Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult and Matthew Goode.
Tom Ford, former Gucci headman and all-around aesthete, has his directorial debut later this year with the release of his first film, “A Single Man.” With a cast that includes Julianne Moore, Colin Firth, Matthew Goode in a drama that looks like an intense stylistic mash-up between Mad Men and Erwin Olaf, the film has already generated considerable curiosity. It follows the life of a British college professor (played by Firth) in Los Angeles after the loss of his partner (played by Goode), with a close friend (Moore) there to help him navigate the ensuing heartache. It is scheduled to be released in time for the 2009 awards season.
