Men on Film | Zorro snap, in Z formation

THREE WORDS: FA – BU – LOUS! | The first time I saw prominent, fearless faggotry on TV was during ‘In Living Color’s’ Men on Film series. As a closeted Christian teen, Wayans and Grier made me crindge in uncomfortable silence. Did everyone assume I was like them? Did they think I was gay if I laughed at the obviously cartoonish jokes? Later, defensively, I’d think, “Is this what they think of me? It’s not clear what exactly I was afraid of. Being called out. Or being lumped into a group I hoped occupied a lower tier on the social strata. After all, “st8-acting bois” are more acceptable, more mainstream, more of what I aught to be like, right? (Shakes head.) Today, as an out dude (one who fully embraces “fagging out”), the now classic skits bring me vast amounts of joy.

One of my lasting regrets was when in the previous century, George Lucas released his digitized revamps of the Original Star Wars Trilogy and I was asked by a local news channel how I liked it, I wish I had replied “Hated it!”, “Zero snaps!”. Sigh, A tragic lost opportunity. Had the camera on me and everything.
