Golden Globes | Mariah Carey was robbed!

Just kidding, but wouldn’t it have been amazing if she’d been nominated for her dressed-down performance in “Precious?” Speaking of Lee Daniels’ films, both Mo’nique and Gabourey Sidibe received nominations by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. for the 67th annual Golden Globes. And that’s it for the women of color, if you don’t count Penélope Cruz.

It’s been a great year for Holywood’s lone Spanish darling (because there can only be one “Latina” at a time). The star of Almodovar’s “Broken Embraces” (nominated for best foreign flick) also garnered a nomination for her sexy, strip tease in Rob Marshall’s “Nine” (see below). To her credit, Cruz sings, dances, and cries for the camera all while making audiences audibly laugh all in one performance. She deserves that nomination fair and square. Clearly we’re conflicted since she and Mo’nique are up for the same Supporting Actress Award.

Oscar-winner and French beauty, Marion Cotillard, also got a nod this week for her moving performance in “Nine” — she’s the only leading lady to sing twice in the diva-decked film. Also, Julianne Moore is nominated for “A Single Man.” Yay.

Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock are both nominated twice—which is great news for them, but bad news for some of the leading ladies snubbed this year including Samantha Morton (“An Education”) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (“Crazy Heart”) and Zooey Deschanel (”(500) Days of Summer”) or… Kristen Stewart (“Twilight”). Again. I kid.

On TV, we’re so happy to see Anna Paquin (“True Blood”, “The Courageous Heart of Irena”) nominated twice and January Jones (“Mad Men”). The Costume Ball cameo really paid off, huh? Though frankly, anyone who’s ever seen “Mad Men” knows that Elisabeth Moss is the one to watch.

The women of “Grey Gardens” return to the nomination board. Big Eddie, Jessica Lange, won an Emmy Award earlier this year, as did two other TV nominees: Toni Collette (“United States of Tara”) and Tina Fey (“30 Rock”).

The nomination that makes the HN men the happiest is for Jane Lynch’s inspired, scene-stealing performance as bully/coach, Sue Sylvester, on Fox’s “Glee;” which look the most nominations for TV. Perhaps one of the most underrated and overlooked actors of her generation. Lynch is a rare bird—one of the few actors on television today who within the span of 30 minutes will convince any viewer that she’s both savior and adversary. Sue Sylvester is the devil, but you can’t help loving her for it. She’s a diva. And that’s something Mariah would certainly approve of.
