BUTT curates Ace Hotel’s pay-per-porn

The editors from BUTT magazine have teamed up with hospitality innovator Ace Hotel to curate a selection for its soon to launch gay porn pay-per-view service.

It’s a peculiar endeavor considering that the internet has come to dominate the porn industry’s distribution and viewership, hotel ordered porn seems counter-intuitive if not a lost cause. Yet BUTT, a magazine that has been at the vanguard of proving the mettle of traditional print in the age of the internet, has a knack for showing the wonders of what an honest perspective and keen thinking can do in defiance of all the hype.

In the tradition of forgoing the conventions of MSG* culture, the team at BUTT has put together a series of films that aren’t as immediately obvious as Bel Ami lovers or Falcon studs. Rather, they pooled from their own individual tastes and connoisseurship developing a range of erotic preferences representing the best of their genre. Whether it is forceful brutality or a gruff papichulo that gets you off, there’s something to illicit the stirrings of horny ambition for everyone. [Possibly NSFW]

It’s not that these particular films couldn’t be had on the internet or found on one’s own, but present here and nowhere else is the luxury of expert experience (earned through dedication and sacrifice one imagines) and the distinction of quality. It all fits in neatly with Ace Hotel’s mission to offer specially culled and unique experiences for their guests, if in fact a lodger can get any old porn on the internet then it is all the more reason to forsake it for something considered and earnest. Time will tell if that kind of service and attention to detail has an audience. Innovation is one of those big ideas that’s being tossed around in this recession and porno, an industry with a fat bottom line, is no less in need of new ideas on how to do business. BUTT plans to follow up this round with another series pending on performance, but I for one will have “Inches” and “Skin Gang” at the top of my queue if I ever find myself spending the night at an Ace location.
 

The films will launch as part of the Ace’s video-on-demand system on November 1st, 2009. BUTT will also be co-hosting gay pride weekend at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs on November 6th, 7th, and 8th 2009.

Born To Raise Hell (1975)
Described by legendary filmmaker Fred Halsted as ‘the best S&M film I’ve ever seen,’ this legendary gay S&M film by Roger Earl set the bar high for every leather daddy, ass-beating porn film that followed. When Jack Wrangler wants something, he gets it. Skin Gang (1999)
Skin Gang brings together two of BUTT’s favorite contributors: legendary art/porn director Bruce LaBruce, (the man behind the queercore movement and films such as Hustler White and No Skin off My Ass) and Slava Mogutin, the Russian poet, photographer, and porn star who entered the US as the first person ever admitted for asylum based on homosexual persecution.
