With perfect weather atop the garden at 230 5th Ave, GLAAD imported a hot slice of Venice Beach to Manhattan for its Summer Series event. While honorary co-chairs Jill Zarin and Countess LuAnn de Lesseps circulated with other notables including Lisa Lampanelli, Ronnie Kroell, Nick Adams, Jack Mackenroth, and DeMarco Majors, the Andrew Christian-clad models kept the crowd at a crest. Other treats included dominatrix/balloon artist Mistress B, Zarin’s BFF Brad, and a cute magician whose two-fingered metal fork bending techniques left us wondering what he could do with all ten digits. Check out more photos and the list of celebs in attendance after the jump.

Oh! D-list reality tv famewhores!
-
Wow! That’s rough.

I saw him in a gold lamé outfit (and not the good kind) at 23rd and 5th on my way over to the event… no wonder he didn’t show.

Great blog! I really enjoyed reading and seeing all the pictures you posted. We had such a fun night and for a great cause. Something “faggoting” probably doesn’t understand because he is too busy masking his own insecurities and shortcomings by being critical of other people. Pay no attention to him.

Sorry Ronnie, didn’t mean to rain on your parade. I was earnestly referring more to The Real Housewives. Yes of course it’s a good thing everyone had fun and yes of course it’s for a good cause. I’m just lamenting that almost every big gay event seems to involve shirtless men (or underwear clad) and senseless pandering to celebrities. And as good as the cause might be, there doesn’t seem to be much more to it than that. It’s a bit banal and sends an odd message about what we, as a community, find important, no?
-
Why wasn’t Lynda Carter there? Does anybody know?
I read she’s suppose to be there? -
Faggoting, it happens at gay and straight events alike…they turn to celebrities to promote awareness because they have the ability to reach out and lend their voice and talent to the cause — thereby raising awareness, and much needed money to keep the organization functioning. This is a business at the end of the day and you will find it to be no different at any organizational event you may attend. As far as shirtless men go, its simply part of the fun of the event….these events are to thank the sponsors, volunteers, and donors that give so much of themselves throughout the year to keep the vital programming up and running. These events give people the chance to let their hair down, be human, and have a good time. The men that were in swimsuits, including myself, were auctioning off our suits to raise money — it was not simply some gratuitous display of man-flesh.
-
Fair enough Ronnie, but I don’t think that makes these kinds of things, and especially this kind of thing, immune to voices of dissent. At the end of the day it IS shirtless men and (pseudo) celebrities and people who are fine with just that. And you can look at it for what it’s meant to be, a good cause, but also what it is in and of itself.
