Dennis Cooper reads ‘Ugly Man’

The great thing about Ugly Man is that the stories are brief. The entire book can be consumed in one sitting in one evening. When I tell friends this, they’re interested. Committing to an entire novel can seem daunting in a world of 142 character tweets. And this is precisely why I enjoy Dennis Cooper’s work. It’s both easy to consume and thought provoking (if not provocative).

Reading Ugly Man is an uncomfortable experience, but a worthwhile one at that. Despite the dark, grim subject matter, Cooper insists this is a book about humor. That Dennis Cooper must be one sick fuck, but that’s exactly why you should read him. –MWH
