One of our goals at HN is to analyze the representations of homosexuality in all forms of media as well as celebrate the artists, people, and companies whose portrayals or contributions have made a significant impact not only on the LGBT people but the community at large. For those reasons we lend our support and applause to a new initiative by GLAAD.
They will kick off their Advertising Media Program on Monday during a reception for LGBT advertising professionals and allies where GLAAD will honor Levi’s and Wells Fargo for their commitment to LGBT-inclusive advertising.
According to GLAAD President, Neil G. Giuliano:
“Words and images matter and can shatter stereotypes. Fair, accurate and inclusive media images prove that we are connected through common, human experiences… These are images that we – and advertisers – have a responsibility to share.”

Fuck GLAAD. Do they do anything other than throw parties and events for celebrities or celebrity wannabes to make them feel good about having a few gay friends? So Levi’s has an ad with two guys in it. Great, give them a fucking award and throw a party. What the fuck has GLAAD really done for us lately, I mean really?

According to the press release for this event: “Most recently, GLAAD successfully advocated that a Virginia used car company pull offensive ads that referred to same-sex flirting as “not smart” from the airwaves and their Web site. ”

So while you may think parties are not a worthwhile use of their or our time, they provide an opportunity to highlight their work, which has spanned the decades and consistently been the public voice against homophobic representations in media.
Anger is a valid emotion, but perhaps you should consider channelling that energy into something productive.
