There can be no doubt of the sea change sweeping over the collective psyche of New Yorkers. After months, nay, perhaps a year of economic doom and gloom pervading thoughts, actions and conversations, one can’t help but desire to turn in and examine one’s inner life, to be transported and transcend. The work of Christopher Williams seeks to reach out and engage the mythology and mysticism that is embedded, deeply and profoundly within all of us.

Drawing upon the work of Jacobus de Voragine known as the Legenda Aurea Sanctorum (or Golden Legend of the Saints), Williams conceives portraits of 17 male saints performed by corporeally and ethnically diverse male dancers of many ages within the New York City dance community accompanied by appearances of two movement choruses and puppets by Eric Wright, Lake Simons, and Christopher Williams.
The particular syntax of movement and costume developed by Carol Binion, Michael Oberle,
Ciera Wells, Andy Jordan, and Christopher Williams resonates in a way that allows us to rediscover a sense of wonder and magic that has been so deeply buried within the souls of the inhabitants of this incredible city. We at homo-neurotic believe that it is through art such as this that we can begin to be rediscover and reimagine ourselves. So check it out. And bring a friend.
