In Brief: Publishing Triangle Awards

The Publishing Triangle Awards were held at the The New School’s Tishman Auditorium in Chelsea last night. Legendary gay historian, Martin Duberman was honored with The Bill Whitehead Award for Lifetime Achievement. He graciously accepted his award but still used his time on stage as a platform for his political beliefs, and cautioned the audience of being too supportive of gay groups that seek such fervent assimilation, and saw little need for state recognition to sanctify our relationships.

Carole DeSanti, long time editor at Dutton, first female editor to come out, and champion of countless gay and lesbian authors was honored with The Publishing Triangle Leadership Award.

A relatively small and modest affair, the evening was a gentle reminder of the shoulders contemporary gay and lesbian writers stand upon, as well as all of us.
