i think she looks good. i don’t think mrs. obama would want to do any kind of glam fashion editorial. this is very much her.

  2. deadpix3l’s avatar

She looks like she’s grimacing. I also want to run a brush through her hair.

I think it’s fine, it’s Michelle, it’s Anna. What more could you ask for? Like homo says, something more glam would be inappropriate especially considering the current state of things.

nobody is talking about how michelle has a weird face. period. her jaw is very masculine. and it’s a hard face to soften by any photog. but yes. a comb isn’t out of the question, but you know what? — that’s just her hair. the vogue retouching team could have slicked her hair back — it looks like an editorial choice to show the whips of hair.

does anyone know what designer she’s wearing?

hill didn’t really look much better.

i don’t think any bush first ladies (not even the twins, as first twins?) made the vogue covers.

here’s michelle on the cover of newsweek. her hair may be more tame, but my argument stands.

She might be wearing Jason Wu again. American Vogue covers have been really strange for the past year.

its too safe. but isnt that the point? somber, not indulgent, but pretty, and reassuring.

  8. Faggoting’s avatar

    it’s Wu

this looks like a cover off of Home & Garden

  10. homoneurotic’s avatar

OK. E! just reported that she was wearing Narciso Rodriguez.

Of course. They can’t really be trusted. They also pronounced it NarsiKo (like Nabisco) Rodriguez.

    grrr.

    @Patryk: Right on point.

Also, let’s not forget that Anna Wintour came from Town & Country.

I think for the first time Vogue’s dry, tired, and and numbing format is finally appropriate. We ain’t going to have Michelle in no Givenchy shot by Terry Richardson.

    Although Obama was….

Ugh. This is really disappointing. Michelle is already a little odd looking but Vogue managed to make her look worse not better. I don’t care for her personally or politically, but I do like to see black women look there best especially on a Vogue cover. I don’t like the angle of her body. I don’t like the Embassy Suites background. The color of her dress is a little blah for her skintone (green or blue would have been better). And I don’t like the type.

  14. faggoting’s avatar

    Uh huh, well, it’s Vogue.

    What were we really expecting?

  15. Deadpix3l’s avatar

I totally get that she’s got to be safe. I certainly don’t expect her to be in Gareth Pugh but I am so bored with Annie Leibowitz. I reckon they should have gotten Mario Testino or Steven Meisel to do the cover.

  16. homoneurotic’s avatar

LOL. Then the headline could be “blame it on the white house.” Instead of madge’s “blame it on rio” for W.

I think they used the best stylist in Ames, IA for this shoot.

Michelle Obama is not a fashion icon…. im so sick of fashion mags trying to tout this pathetic notion. Nothing wrong with JCrew, as I have a closet full of it, but it is not fashion news nor does it give me “chic” style.

She is not Jackie O, nor will she ever be. Vogue, Bazaar, Elle… get real- stick to genuine fashion news.

Michelle does not take risks, her “style” is very much like any other first lady- boring. Sure, she can dress it up with a brooch or kitten heels, but please, that does not make her a fashion icon.

I love Michelle Obama! She is so intelligent, graceful, stern when she needs to be and she has a wonderful sense of humor.

I saw Michelle Obama in person and she is really a very tall Lady. She is also a very charming and charismatic woman just like his husband.

  21. homoneurotic’s avatar

oooh! that’s very cool. i’ve never met the first lady, but i can imagine she’s a formidable presence. i hope you meant, “her” husband in that last line. :)
