After hitting a few gallery openings last night, several friends and I went in search of a recently-opened pet store that’s been getting a little buzz. You won’t find much in the way of typical pets at this little shop. Rather, you’ll find chicken nuggets nibbling BBQ dipping sauce under the watchful eye of a brooding hen, a preening rabbit decked in pearls, fish sticks swimming peacefully in their fishbowl, a CC security camera watching over her next of young, and a host of equally bizarre and wonderful insights into the human relationship with animals — be they pets, food, or clothing. Street art phenomenon Banksy has struck gold again. Straying from his well-known graffiti pieces, Banksy stays true to his satyrical wit with his latest installation “The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill”. As his first foray into animatronics, Banksy has clearly mastered the the medium in a spellbinding way.
The pet store is open for viewing from 10am through midnight until Halloween. It’s the sort of art to which a blog post simply can’t do justice. Get out and see it yourself!
